Colorfront Transkoder is among the first software applications to receive the HDR Vivid Colour-Grading Award, performing mastering capabilities that meet this new standard, end-to-end.

Colorfront's Head of Business Development Jozsef Hatfaludi receives the HDR Vivid Award
The Colorfront Transkoder mastering system has become one of the first software applications to receive the HDR Vivid Color-Grading Award, one of only a few able to perform mastering capabilities that meet this new standard, end-to-end.
HDR Vivid was developed by the China Ultra HD Video Industry Alliance (part of UHD World Association, China). Released by the NRTA (National Radio and TV Administration) in 2022 as a new standard for UHD video processing, HDR Vivid is based on existing open HDR standards such as HDR10 and HLG. It serves as a mechanism using terminal display capabilities to make sure the video content being displayed complies with the content producer’s artistic intent as closely as possible.
End-to-end systems have been built and tested based on these standards to demonstrate their technical advantages and suitability for large-scale commercial use. More specifications for different applications are under development.

HDR Vivid encoding
HDR Vivid has been widely adopted in the Chinese market for high-quality HDR streaming and broadcasting. With this new certification, Colorfront’s Transkoder now supports the use of embedded HDR Vivid metadata to render PQ-encoded HEVC video. PQ enabled display devices implement tone mapping to adapt light levels, using content metadata to display PQ coded images. The tone-mapping technique can be applied dynamically – frame-by-frame – for each individual shot
Preview and Verification Node
To work with the HDR Vivid encoding enhancement, Colorfront has introduced a new HDR Vivid node in Transkoder, giving users the ability to preview and verify HDR Vivid colour-mapping, tailored to specific target displays, before final project delivery. This feature ensures that content will appear as intended on HDR Vivid–capable devices, giving filmmakers and studios a very high level of creative control, accuracy and confidence during post-production processes.

HDR Vivid tools
By integrating the HDR Vivid colour space into Transkoder, Colorfront has also opened up exciting opportunities to transform legacy SDR content into vibrant, dynamic HDR Vivid, using Colorfront Engine’s recognised technology.
The addition of HDR Vivid capability follows numerous updates and improvements to the 2025 versions of Colorfront’s products and services, announced in September. Many of these use AI and automated features to ease the effort and time spent on complex, time-consuming mastering and QC procedures.
“We are incredibly proud that Transkoder has been recognized as one of the first mastering solutions to achieve this new milestone,” said Mark Jaszberenyi, CEO of Colorfront. “The addition of HDR Vivid reflects our on-going dedication to delivering innovations supporting filmmakers, studios and streaming platforms around the world.” colorfront.com
