EGG expanded its capabilities with a significant shared storage upgrade from EditShare supporting the growing demand for high-performance workflows and remote collaboration.

Editshare EGG

EGG Post Production & VFX in Dublin EGG has built a strong reputation for its editing, finishing, sound and VFX services. Founded in 2004 by editors Gary Shortall and Gareth Young, EGG delivers content for major Irish, UK and US broadcasters that has earned a following among audiences worldwide.

Their clients’ post work makes reliable, efficient storage infrastructure critical to EGG’s operations. The company has expanded its capabilities with a significant storage upgrade. This investment supports the growing demand the team is experiencing for high-performance workflows, including colour grading of material at resolutions of 4K and beyond, while improving remote collaboration and workflow flexibility.

The project was delivered in collaboration with Tyrell, EditShare’s long-time channel partner in Ireland, who worked closely with EGG and EditShare to scope, install and support the new system.

Top Speed

To meet these demands, EGG has integrated EditShare’s 96TB NVMe and EFS300 256TB storage solutions, replacing an older system that could no longer support the increasing technical requirements of high-resolution workflows. The upgrade consolidates all offline, online, grading and VFX under a single vendor, improving overall efficiency and project management.

NVMe is, above all, about speed. NVMe SSDs achieve ultra-fast media read and write access to multi-layered, multi-user media production projects. This leads to faster collaboration, preventing delays and lag across m&e workflows with high-speed, high-bitrate and high-throughput shared storage. Centralisation also avoids the video playback issues caused by network congestion or oversubscription associated with working on VFX projects simultaneously.

Swift Link

One of the most valuable additions to EGG’s workflow is EditShare’s Swift Link,  which allows creative teams to access media and work on projects from any location. Swift Link integrates the EditShare MediaSilo functionality, which means remote teams can share content instantly, gather feedback securely and collaborate in real time while the system scales to an unlimited number of reviewers. Remote teams have the same experience as if they were plugged in at the HQ.

Swift Link transparently bridges remote workstations with EGG’s central EFS storage. It dynamically adapts to network latency, automatically optimizing media delivery of both proxy and high-resolution files. Downloading assets or manually altering NLE setups is unnecessary, which greatly limits security risks.

A major advantage is that editorial, asset management, approvals and all the associated metadata are integrated into a single platform, avoiding redundant storage silos and making sure that teams are always working from the correct version. Meanwhile they can work from their preferred NLE – Premiere, Avid or Resolve – by streaming secure proxies directly into the timeline. Stakeholders can leave comments without exporting.

Productivity Levels

As productions demand flexible, hybrid workflows more often, Swift Link ensures that EGG’s editors, colourists and VFX artists maintain the necessary level of productivity, whether on-site or remote. The ability to securely stream high-resolution content without performance compromise has been transformative for EGG’s post-production pipeline.

Gareth Young, CEO and Co-Founder of EGG, commented on the continued partnership with EditShare “We’ve worked with EditShare for over eight years, and this latest upgrade reinforces why we continue to rely on them,” he said. “The combination of high-performance storage, local European support, and the flexibility from Swift Link made this the right choice for our team.”

Since going live last summer, the upgraded system has enabled EGG to serve as a reference site for high-end grading workflows. The team appreciates the simplicity and speed of Swift Link for remote collaboration, without sacrificing the performance needed for complex post-production tasks. editshare.com
