Fox Television Stations, XR (Extreme Reach) and LTN have completed a four-week live syndication initiative for the 25 Words or Less LIVE game show, demonstrating an approach to live television distribution that combines operational flexibility, reliability and real-time audience engagement.

Produced for Fox First Run, 25 Words or Less LIVE aired weekdays from 4 May through 29 May, originating from Parlay Studios in Jersey City, New Jersey. During its four-week run, the initiative brought more than 38 live broadcasts twice daily to 18 broadcast stations, many of them Fox owned and operated, across the major US markets through a workflow running on Extreme Reach's syndication services and LTN's managed IP video transport network and master control operations.

Immediate, Interactive Viewing Experiences

The project marked a milestone for all three organisations, indicating the viability of live syndicated television workflows that give broadcasters new opportunities to create more immediate, interactive viewing experiences. The live delivery meant stations were able to engage viewers through social media, local promotions, and real-time audience participation, by allowing fans to play along with contestants live.

"Live programming is a singular way for stations to engage viewers in real time," said Stephen Brown, EVP Programming and Development, Fox Television Stations, Fox First Run. "This initiative demonstrated how innovative distribution strategies can support new programming models while maintaining the reliability broadcasters require."

XR and LTN set up a live syndication workflow that allowed Fox to distribute the programming to participating stations across the country. XR managed the show's distribution through its syndication platform, while LTN supplied fully managed IP transport and master control services connecting Fox's production facility to local stations. Together, the companies took advantage XR's content delivery expertise and LTN's broadcast infrastructure to bring the immediacy of live television to viewers at all locations, allowing fans to watch, interact and play along with the show as it happened.

Cost-Efficient Alternative to Satellite

"Delivering live syndicated programming requires coordination, precision and dependable technology partners," said Matt Pagen, General Manager of XR Media. "Together with Fox and LTN, we created a workflow that helps broadcasters and syndicators engage audiences in new ways, while maximizing their content investments. These combined services delivered the performance we needed, while working as a more cost-efficient alternative to traditional satellite distribution."

The initiative received positive feedback from participating stations and illustrated how cloud-based and IP-enabled distribution models can support live television workflows that have traditionally depended on legacy infrastructure. It also highlighted the potential for significant cost savings compared to regular satellite distribution, without sacrificing the reliability, scale or viewer experience required for live television.

LTN’s SVP of Global Products Rick Young said. "By combining Extreme Reach's syndication expertise with LTN's managed IP network and operational services, a reliable live television experience reached stations across the country." The collaboration reflects a growing industry shift toward more flexible, software-driven distribution architectures that can support live events, syndicated programming and evolving audience engagement strategies. ltnglobal.com
