As viewing habits and technology demands evolve, Sunrise enhances its streaming services for live and linear TV using Bridge Technologies VB330 monitoring and Broadpeak Multicast ABR.
Swiss telecom provider Sunrise Communications AG operates a comprehensive fixed-line access and mobile network, supplying private customers with mobile, landline, broadband and TV services. It also supports business users with single-source 360° communication and integrated ICT connectivity, security and IoT systems, driving digital transformation.
As viewing habits and technology requirements evolve, Sunrise is strengthening its streaming capabilities for live and linear TV. Broadpeak’s Multicast ABR is one of the technologies used to support efficient and resilient IP-based delivery, alongside other delivery models that keep the platform flexible and under Sunrise’s control. This flexibility also allows Sunrise to integrate further third-party technologies into its TV ecosystem as requirements evolve.
Bridge Technologies’ VB330 is being used to gain visibility into IP-based TV delivery and supports Sunrise engineering teams in validating and operating services across multicast and unicast delivery paths. Regardless of whether video is multicast, unicast such as OTT/ABR, carried over IP or SDI, through a CDN or directly, and compression and TS standards notwithstanding, the VB330 incorporates the tools necessary to monitor the specific attributes of each casting type with insight at the IP, TS and content level.
The VB330’s Quality of Service (QoS) monitoring gives an understanding of network performance along the full media supply chain, and ensures that network movement is occurring within established parameters. The generated data identifies problem points, leading to strategic improvements.
Because what matters to audiences is the end-user experience, not technical network performance, the VB330 also focusses on QoE, quality of experience. Positioning itself in the last mile, through content extraction it can detect and alarm MOS average, VMAF scoring, freeze- frame/colour-freeze error, audio level and stereo phase issues and real-time loudness. It can also extract closed captions and deliver thumbnail content archiving and timeline visualisation.
