Net Insight uses its new Nimbra 1020G distribution platform within the trial capability within their Asia-wide live media network, evaluating IP migration, 2110 and JPEG XS workflows.

Net insight NETWORKS Managed distribution

Net Insight’s compact Nimbra 1020G is a new high-density media delivery platform in the company’s Nimbra Live series. It was announced at IBC 2026 and combines IP media processing, switching and controlled interconnection in a modular 1U hardware package that scales live IP media workflows efficiently across facilities and production environments.

Nimbra 1020G extends Nimbra Live’s capabilities, complementing the existing Nimbra 520 model, which is specialised for HEVC contribution, and the Nimbra 1060 for high-capacity media processing. The new 1020G extends Net Insight's Open Live Media architecture across contribution, access, aggregation, controlled interconnect, core and distribution.

Full System Visibility and Control

Open Live Media works with existing infrastructure to unify the workflows broadcasters and service providers use to run, produce and deliver live media under professional time constraints. It includes intelligent control features – called Live Intelligence – and an execution layer.

Instead of managing individual devices or links, users gain a system-level view of how the entire live service behaves as a system across networks, cloud environments and partners, improving broadcasters’ operational control. Giving end-to-end visibility and control, it is especially useful for remote production, which depends on multiple networks and operational domains, helping teams identify risks early and maintain consistent service quality during critical live events.

Trial Capability Across APAC Region

Net Insight is now using the new Nimbra 1020G as part of the trial capability within the company’s Asia-wide live media network, giving the customers and partners there a new way to evaluate IP migration, 2110 and JPEG XS workflows, and controlled interconnection between independent operated media environments. The network’s trial capability can now better address the range of customer scenarios across the region.

Net insight's Nimbra 1020G combines open standards and APIs with Net Insight's Trust Boundary technology. These features mean that broadcasters, production companies and media service providers can extend their broadcast IP workflows without overbuilding their infrastructure, even as live production becomes more distributed across venues, partners, facilities and cloud environments. IP workflows frequently need to extend beyond the media core, but also need to avoid bringing core-scale footprint, power and cost with them.

Density and Scale

Nimbra 1020G supports up to 64 channels of 2110 JPEG XS compression and 600 Gbps of lossless Ethernet switching. This increases service density while reducing rack space, power, external switching requirements and cost per live service. Built around the Nimbra Media Pro App architecture, Nimbra 1020G can adapt across contribution and remote production workflows, facility connectivity, partner interconnect and distribution access.

Net insight broadcast Challenges

"True scale means being able to deploy the same technology, from small edge installations to data-centre environments." said Andreas Eriksson, CEO of Net Insight. "Nimbra 1020G gives operators an efficient way to put high-density processing, switching and control where they need it, while retaining the flexibility to adapt as workflows change."

Key Differentiators – Trust Boundary, Live Intelligence, Compatibility

Nimbra 1020G’s continuously running SMPTE RP 2129 Trust Boundary creates a secure demarcation between independently operated media networks, allowing organisations to exchange live media services while retaining full control of their own addressing, multicast architecture, security policies and orchestration. To maintain service resilience and interoperability, full media payload and timing is always preserved through each Trust Boundary.

"The value of Trust Boundary is that organisations can exchange live media without sharing network design, investing in complex integrations or adding conversion." said Larissa Görner-Meeus, CPO of Net Insight. "With Nimbra 1020G, that controlled handoff can now be placed wherever services enter or leave the network."

Nimbra 1020G supports up to 1024 fully monitored flows. With demarcation from 1G to 100G Ethernet, Trust Boundary combines per-service admission, address adaptation, strict QoS control and real-time flow monitoring. One application handles all types of media flows, from compressed transport streams to uncompressed 2110 UHD essences. Up to 128 lossless Ethernet switch instances result in guaranteed QoS, fine-grained traffic isolation and workflow aggregation for most broadcaster or service provider environments.

Nimbra Live Intelligence adds service-level visibility, control and assurance, giving operators real-time insight as live services are added, rerouted or changed. This enables more dynamic, software-driven operations while maintaining operational control.

For existing Nimbra operators, compatibility with Nimbra 1000 modular hardware and the Nimbra Media Pro App family serves as a direct expansion path, allowing users to augment the infrastructure rather than introduce a separate platform.

Managing Broadcast Evolution

Nimbra 1020 comprises a distinct, flexible media edge toolkit compared to the Nimbra 520, which enables bandwidth-efficient contribution and distributed workflows. The Nimbra 1020G is particularly suited to organisations moving from SDI/ASI and traditional gateway-based infrastructure toward IP, introducing 2110 and JPEG XS at the facility edge, or connecting independently operated media infrastructure. Through the new partner network, these migration and interconnect scenarios can now be evaluated under real-world conditions before deployment.

"We are already seeing a number of Tier 1 projects across APAC where the challenge is not simply whether to move to IP, but how to do it in a practical and cost-efficient way," said KokLeong Chong, Vice President, APAC at Net Insight. "Nimbra 1020G is a strong fit for those environments. By making it available through our regional trial network, customers can evaluate their migration path, from existing gateway infrastructure toward 2110 and JPEG XS, handoffs between organisations before committing to deployment."

Together with Nimbra 520 and Nimbra Edge, the addition of Nimbra 1020G gives Net Insight's APAC partners a broader environment for demonstrating and validating customer workflows as live media infrastructure evolves from legacy interfaces toward open, controlled IP.     netinsight.net
