Using Sony's PDT-FP1 portable data transmitter, photographers can reliably and automatically feed their images into the NFL's editorial system via 5G in real time with dual SIM functionality.

Sony NFL PDT FP1

When the Indianapolis Colts and Atlanta Falcons met on 9 November 2025 in front of over 70,000 fans in Berlin's Olympic Stadium, the official photographers were keen to capture fans’ and players’ reactions and emotions up close and in real time from the stadium and the NFL fan zones.

Sony equipped selected photographers with a 5G connected camera system, Sony’s PDT-FP1 portable data transmitter. It allowed them to shoot and upload their high-resolution images into NFL's editorial systems in real time, using the connected camera’s 5G capabilities.

Transmission from Camera to Cloud

Used in live situations like this high-profile NFL match, the PDT-FP1 supports direct data transmission from a camera to a cloud or server destination, where publishers can quickly select and publish images taken from the ground on their channels. The transmitter is designed specifically for professional photo and video production, directly transmitting image and video files with speed and stability using 5G networks.

It has dual SIM functionality, a large 6.1-inch touchscreen, active cooling and a range of connectivity options, making it a good choice for broadcast, professional photographic and video workflows. With its reliable performance and flexibility it can adapt to most event environments. The PDT-FP1 includes 256 GB of internal storage, expandable up to 1 TB with an optional microSD card.

Dual SIM Functionality

The device’s dual SIM capability means that it supports both a physical SIM and an eSIM, and allows switching between them. It automatically selects the stronger network based on signal conditions and switches SIMs for data transfer. The antenna design is optimised to maximise reception sensitivity, for high-speed, low latency communication over LTE and both local and private Sub6 and mmWave networks.

By connecting the PDT-FP1 to a Sony camera via cable, photos and videos can be imported into the device and the data automatically transferred to a specified FTP server via USB or Ethernet or to the cloud service provided by Sony, after an initial setup. Once setup is complete, the Camera Wired Connection setting will automatically transfer files – settings don’t need to be re-configured each time.

From there, the Camera Wired Connection delivers files automatically to C3 Portal and Ci Media Cloud as part of the workflow. Using the device’s display and Network Visualiser function, transfer status can be visually monitored before and during shooting.

Monitoring and Backup

By using an external monitoring app, it’s also possible to capture an external backup recording alongside the camera recording. Simultaneous Wi-Fi connectivity and hotspotting is also an option – through the PDT-FP1’s interface, users can connect quickly to new Wi-Fi networks, while simultaneously connecting pre-configured cameras and devices. This makes network management simpler and set-ups faster.

“We are very proud to have worked with the NFL to make the work of photographers covering the NFL Berlin Game 2025 easier," said Luca Sabio, Head Connected Business, Sony Europe. “5G is an important component in live event environments. With our PDT-FP1 mobile data transmitter and 5G camera systems, we are demonstrating how efficient work for photographers at major sport events can look and function.” pro.sony
