Interra Systems’ ORION content monitoring suite for linear/IP and live/VOD streaming content has undergone a new series of updates, with a special focus on improving the quality of OTT streaming.

Anupama Anantharaman, vice president, product management at Interra Systems said, “We continuously update the ORION platform with features and intelligence that result in better monitoring status and root cause analysis for faster troubleshooting, and proactive measures to help avoid quality-related issues. At IBC2024, we’re planning to show how these improvements not only meet the evolving requirements for OTT content delivery but also increase monitoring efficiency and reliability.”

ORION now has comprehensive support for the IPv6 protocol, which automates and speeds up the process of assigning unique IP addresses to devices on a network. It also helps improve security due to its use of IPsec encryption and authentication, which protects against attacks and enhances data privacy.

Another update is the ORION suite’s new smart framework that has been developed for efficient root-cause analysis. When used to identify and resolve issues quickly, it can prevent interruptions to the streaming quality.

ORION now includes ad insertion monitoring, at whatever point it is needed along the supply chain. This capability can include a comparison of externally supplied ad scheduling information against dynamic ad insertion (DAI) markers received in the content, and alerts for DAI marker propagation issues in the media workflow.

ORION’s functionality includes automation of alerting and quality status reports for group-level KPIs (key performance indicators), giving users insights into overall performance. Having immediate access to such information makes to possible to maintain high standards of content delivery. This latest version of ORION also contains some of the first all-frame decoding and deep-dive analysis features available, for users operating high-priority channels.

Other updates to ORION include support for packaged Docker-based installations of the software, to simplify deployment and management within facilities. The product suite also carries out checks for low latency that may affect viewers, and has improved combined checks for content defect monitoring – detection of freeze, black and so on occurring with or without audio silence.

Interra’s updates to the ORION Suite intend to help streaming service providers deliver a consistently high-quality viewing experience, which is critical in competitive video streaming environments where quality is a primary differentiator for viewer retention. ORION supports monitoring density and is capable of managing both small and large numbers of streams. To make the system economically scalable as well, the density is matched by a flexible pay-as-you-go licensing model, giving media companies the adaptability to efficiently scale their operations.

Interra Systems will demonstrate the updates to its ORION product suite at IBC2024, 13-16 September, in Amsterdam. www.interrasystems.com
