Net Insight’s Nimbra 1000 media transport network platform has been upgraded with new ST 2110 functionality to simplify the adoption of all-IP workflows and support high-bandwidth media applications up to and beyond 100 Gbps.

Nimbra makes broadcast grade long-distance media networking possible across most infrastructures. Its timing-awareness allows different video feeds to be aligned on delivery for synchronized playout in remote production, primary distribution and other applications. IP based synchronization using PTP can also be extended over wide area networks, supporting live, distributed or remote production in any location.

“Our goal is to make things simpler for operators implementing IP media workflows, so that they can deliver critical media services and protect their investments as they transition to all-IP,” said Crister Fritzson, CEO of Net Insight. “This change is expected to ease the journey to IP, regardless of whether a user needs to integrate into a new IP environment or upgrade an existing Nimbra network.“

“We have developed a suite of functions that retains the platform’s reliability and management capabilities while making it possible to build any type of IP-centric workflow using ST 2110, ST 2022-6 and connection with SDI in any combination of networks,” VP Product Management Christer Bohm said. “Furthermore, as media networks become more open and connected to the internet, network access must remain tamper-proof and secure. Therefore, Net Insight’s IP Media Trust Boundary is included in this suite of functions in order to secure all workflows.”

The IP Media Trust Boundary application safeguards media by monitoring media for security and compliance as it is transported across network domains. Some of the Trust Boundary’s core functions include real-time IP media monitoring, media protection, traffic control, flow replication and scalability up to 256 flows on a 100 Gbps network connection.

Relying on easy-to-operate IP systems that will help control costs as their business grows, CEO Andreas Langell from NetInsight customer Mobilelinks said, “Our next steps include the implementation of more Nimbra 1060 nodes and an upgrade from 600 Gbps to 1,200 Gbps on our existing Nimbra media network, in order to keep up with our customers’ requirements for more bandwidth and new locations.”

Net Insight’s new ST 2110 functions in the Nimbra platform means users can now safely run WAN network applications up to and beyond 100 Gbps, including processing functions such as JPEG XS, JPEG 2000 and MPEG4. It comprises full conversion between ST 2110, ST 2022-6 and SDI, which means greater flexibility for organisations undergoing an incremental transition to IP workflows. This way the Nimbra 1000 platform can act both as an IP gateway with up to 100 Gbps aggregation, or as a fully ST 2110-compatible Media Switch Router (MSR) networknetinsight.net
