Canon has launched two new affordable full frame RF lenses, the RF 24mm f/1.8 MACRO IS STM and RF 15-30mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM. The RF 24mm f/1.8 MACRO IS STM is a lightweight f/1.8 prime lens featuring a 24mm focal length, and the RF 15-30mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM is an ultra-wide angle zoom lens covering a range of focal lengths from 15-30mm. In line with the RF series of lenses, these lenses are built on the same optical system in compact designs that suit versatile, mobile shooting.
RF 24mm f/1.8 MACRO IS STM
The RF 24mm f/1.8 MACRO IS STM wide-angle 24mm prime lens works well in low light environments with a f/1.8 maximum aperture and circular, 9-blade design. The design produces a soft background that makes the subject stand out sharply. When used with an EOS R series APS-C sensor camera, this lens also gives an effective focal length of approximately 35mm.
Weighing just 270g, the lens features a gear type STM motor for fast, quiet focusing in a small form factor. Suitable applications are travel and landscape photography that require mobility. With a minimum focusing distance of 14cm (0.5x magnification), photographers can move in extremely close to their subject, while still being able to capture the wider environment around it.
Built with a customisable lens control ring, photographers can fine tune ISO, aperture and switch between AF methods. The dedicated focus ring and lens information display also gives greater control during manual focusing. It features 11 elements in 9 groups and employs super spectra coating to prevent ghosting and flare. Its 5-stop Optical Image Stabilizer increases to 6.5-stops of Coordinated Control IS when used with an EOS R series body built with In Body Image Stabilizer.
Ultra-wide RF 15-30mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM
A focal range of 15 – 30mm makes the RF 15-30mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM usually flexible and a good choice for travel imagery and outdoor settings. This ultra-wide-angle lens can accommodate more elements of a scene into each shot to capture the full context and scale of subjects such as large buildings and wide natural landscapes. The lens has a 5.5-stop Optical Image Stabilizer that allows longer shutter speeds for hand-held shooting and video. When used with an EOS R System body featuring In Body Image Stabilizer, users can achieve up to 7 stops for steady, solid stills and video.
The RF 15-30mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM weighs 390g in a compact, robust design. With a very quiet, leadscrew-type STM focusing motor, the lens can quickly focus on fast moving subjects and has excellent macro capabilities. Photographers can experiment with the manual focus to feature the world in extreme detail, due to the 0.52x magnification. Its optical design has aspherical, precision moulded elements and lens coatings. A combined focus and lens control ring allows you to manipulate settings without taking your eyes off a scene or subject.
Compatible with the EOS R, EOS RP and EOS R6, these lenses will also suit Canon’s new APS-C models, the EOS R7 and EOS R10, due to the wide-angle focal lengths.
Available in Australia in August, the lenses will be supported by Canon Australia’s 5-year warranty when purchased from an authorised Canon Australia reseller. The RF 24mm f/1.8 MACRO IS STM has an RRP of AUD1,049.00 and the RF 15-30mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM has an RRP of AUD969.00. www.canon.com.au
